From Honeypots to the Network Edge: How We Blocked Almost Two Million Attacks in a Single Day

Many large-scale attacks are automated. Once an attacker exposes themselves, blocking them quickly has a significant impact. By combining (i) honeypots that detect malicious intent early, (ii) external threat intelligence to confirm that intent, and (iii) fast, automated ACL updates, we at C-SOC were able to turn a small number of observations into a very large defensive impact. This was not a theoretical exercise or a simulation. It was a real deployment, measured on a live network, against real attackers.

The takeaway is clear: you do not need massive blocklists or complex policies to stop a large fraction of attacks. Identifying active attackers early and reacting quickly can be enough to dramatically reduce exposure. Sometimes, the attackers tell you who they are — if you are listening.
